Dangerous fire retardant chemicals
As per manufacturer's website, this foam is treated with the fire retardant Firemaster 550. Google it - for example, investigation by the Chicago Tribune reporters: "The MSDS for Firemaster 550 includes ingredients listed Component B and Component A. According to the Tribune article, independent scientists have determined Firemaster 550 contains "two brominated compounds known as TBB and TBPH." These chemicals are structurally similar to DEHP - a chemical banned for use in children's products and considered a known carcinogen.
These chemicals have been showing up in the environment and people in quantities that have alarmed scientists and health experts for years."
Enough for me to not to buy this product. Please think about what your child breaths in when sleeping!

These bumpers are perfect! We originally bought the set of two, one for each side of a platform full bed. If I could give them 6 stars I would! My 21 mo old daughter moves a lot in her sleep - I mean a lot! It's also nice that she can climb over them to get into bed. I only have one problem with the bumpers - they worked SO WELL, they prevented my daughter from rolling off the bed on either side, so she would work her way down the bed in her sleep. I just bought a third set to put at the end of the bed as well. Like I said, my daughter MOVES and if these can keep my daughter in the bed, they will work for you too. I wish I had come up with the product idea myself!
Frustrated.... Functional but Hazardous
So I'm annoyed to say that we've been using these bumpers in our bed for co-sleeping for the past six months and just recently learned that this foam is treated with Firemaster 550 fire-retardant. I should have done my homework and been aware that this would be the case with a foam product. This is listed on their website: [...] and you can Google the research on the negative effects of Firemaster 550, particularly as a endocrine disruptor.
Yes, it meets California standards and is PBDE free, but if you are one who intentionally goes out of your way to avoid fire-retardants and live a non-toxic life, you should be concerned.
So in the end, I feel frustrated because it served its function very well, but I am disappointed to hear that it is treated with a potentially harmful fire-retardant. We'll be getting rid of these.
A rolled up blanket underneath the fitted sheet does almost the same thing...
